Reasons for Having a Garden PondMany people who are even slightly interested in having a pond in their garden have a lot of trouble trying to decide whether it is such a good idea or not. They battle with the pros and cons and this indecision often leads them to not bothering at all. The aim of this article is to try and sway you into having a pond and will list some benefits in having one in the garden. First of all, think of the aesthetics, or the visual beauty, if you like. The sight of water is mesmerising for many people and the addition of a small water fountain or waterfall into the pond will keep them mesmerised for days on end. Following on from this is the perceived auditory beauty of a pond. What better way to relax after a stressful day at work, for example, than listening to the babbling, gurgling, cascading or even dripping sound of water in your pond while enjoying a nice cool drink? The next benefit we can list for owning a pond is the fact that you can add "pets" to them. And by pets we obviously mean fish. Adding fish such as Koi carp or goldfish not only adds to the overall décor of the pond, it also gives you some new pets to look after and take care of. A lot of people will see the actual "gardening" of the pond as a great benefit. People mustn't forget that a pond is not just some hole dug into the ground and filled with water. It will eventually end up as its own unique ecological entity with many types of plants, both aquatic and land based. These will all need looking after and many people view gardening as a great way to relax. Another benefit is the fact that a pond can be so simple to create. In its very basic form you can go from nothing to a garden pond in a day. Dig a hole, line it with a pond liner or pond hard-shell and fill it with water - simple. Obviously the more complicated ones with water features, etc. can take a bit more time to create. They are also easy to run nowadays, which is another great benefit. The advent of solar powered equipment such as lights, filters, and pumps, not only makes maintenance a doddle, it keeps running costs low – so low, in fact, that it's free! No charge for solar power after all. A garden pond also adds a bit of interest to a back garden. Having just a large area of grass in the garden can be boring and not visually stimulating, but thinking about having a pond can let your landscaping juices flow freely and you will be amazed at some of the ideas you can come up with to "improve" your garden. Finally, creating and installing your very own garden pond can mean that your back garden can very quickly become your own private getaway. A beautiful place to retreat to when the stresses of live become too much, or when your significant other is grating on your nerves! |
